Il mercante di Venezia: Per corteggiare la ricca e bella Porzia, Bassanio chiede tremila ducati al suo amico Antonio, il mercante di Venezia. Ma Antonio non ha denaro liquido fino al ritorno delle sue navi dal mare, e per aiutare l’amico è costretto a chiedere un prestito a Shylock, un usuraio ebreo noto per i suoi alti tassi d’interesse. Shylock concede il denaro a una condizione: se Antonio non restituirà il prestito alla data stabilita, avrà diritto a una libbra della sua carne.

Antonio e Cleopatra: Dopo l’assassinio di Giulio Cesare e la battaglia di Filippi, Marco Antonio, Cesare Ottaviano e Lepido si dividono il dominio del mondo conosciuto. Tuttavia, Antonio rimane affascinato da Cleopatra, regina d’Egitto, e trascura i suoi doveri politici per trascorrere del tempo con lei ad Alessandria. Lo scandalo che ne segue diventa argomento di pettegolezzi a Roma e provoca una frattura tra Antonio e il giovane Cesare Ottaviano. Con la morte della moglie di Antonio e la sfida di Pompeo al potere del triumvirato, gli eventi si accelerano: Antonio è costretto a tornare a Roma per riprendere i suoi incarichi e, per rafforzare l’alleanza con Cesare, sposa sua sorella Ottavia. Il matrimonio scatena una furiosa esplosione di gelosia in Cleopatra.

The Merchant of Venice:
In order to court the wealthy and beautiful Portia, Bassanio asks his friend Antonio, the merchant of Venice, for three thousand ducats. Antonio, however, has no ready cash until his ships return from sea, and to help his friend he is forced to borrow the money from Shylock, a Jewish moneylender notorious for his high interest rates. Shylock agrees to the loan on one condition: if Antonio fails to repay it on the agreed date, Shylock will be entitled to a pound of his flesh.

Antony and Cleopatra:
After the assassination of Julius Caesar and the Battle of Philippi, Mark Antony, Octavius Caesar, and Lepidus divide control of the known world. Antony, however, becomes captivated by Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, and neglects his political responsibilities in order to spend time with her in Alexandria. The resulting scandal becomes a subject of gossip in Rome and causes a rift between Antony and the young Octavius Caesar. With the death of Antony’s wife and Pompey’s challenge to the power of the triumvirate, events accelerate: Antony is forced to return to Rome to resume his duties and, in order to strengthen the alliance with Caesar, marries his sister Octavia. The marriage provokes a furious outburst of jealousy in Cleopatra.
